Juniper was used as a rubbing alcohol in ancient times. A great antiseptic, its wood was burned in French hospitals to combat smallpox in the year 1870. Juniper berry trees are found locally in parks and can grow as high as 30 feet tall. The Egyptians used the berries to embalm.
